The Introduction of Pain Medicine Education During the Preclinical Years
Medical schools lack adequate exposure to pain medicine. A pain medicine course provides students an early introduction to pain education and enhances the specialty's presence. As this course was an optional course, next steps to enhance pain education at the medical student level include working with medical school administration to incorporate and develop pain medicine material as part of the preclinical core curriculum. Disseminating course success to other medical institutions can also help to increase earlier exposure to the field in hopes of other institutions adopting similar frameworks.
