Polarization‐Sensitive Photosynapse Based on PdSe 2 /WS 2 Heterostructure for Visible‐Infrared Broadband Artificial Vision System

Abstract Polarization‐sensitive visual systems with visual adaptability enable organisms to accurately perceive the external world very even in a rapidly variable environment and efficiently process visual information. However, most of the current polarization‐sensitive visual adaptive devices are based on individual materials exhibiting low performance and high power consumption which hinder their practical integrated applications. In this paper, a polarization‐sensitive visible‐infrared broadband synaptic device based on a PdSe 2 /WS 2 heterojunction is proposed and constructed for an artificial vision system. The device shows an extremely low dark current of 0.31 nA, and excellent polarization detection capability in the 488–1550 nm wavelengths with high polarization sensitivity of 10.55 under 980 nm. The device exhibits excellent high‐resolution polarization imaging, optical communication, and image convolution processing capabilities. In addition, it successfully simulates a range of synaptic behaviors with a PPF index of 138% and achieves polarization‐sensitive visual behaviors under bias voltage modulation. It is noteworthy that the device exhibits strong brain‐like learning and memory ability, which realizes image simulation and recognition for polarization‐sensitive neural vision applications. This work provides a promising avenue for the design of high‐performance photoelectric synapses with polarization sensitivity and shows a good application prospect in the new generation of intelligent visual perception systems.
