Research on the Application of PBL Teaching Method in Ideological and Political Education of Engineering Courses - Taking the Course of Genetic Algorithm in Database Application as an Example

In order to improve the teaching quality of engineering courses, overcome the disadvantages of strong pertinence but weak coherence and incomplete knowledge system in traditional after-school exercises, simultaneously solve the problems of “hard integration” and “superficial” of ideological and political education in engineering courses under the background of New Engineering, the PBL (Problem-Based Learning) teaching method is applied. Take the course of Genetic Algorithm in Database Application as an example, PBL is introduced into the experimental process, and a complete experimental teaching project with the design and development of archive management system as the main line is designed. This project uses the database management system based open-source genetic algorithm as the operating platform, different questions(problems) are designed in different teaching stages, and through the phased task implementation, gradually explaining the essence of database design, guiding students to experience the sense of achievement and fun in curriculum practice, helping students master the management techniques of mainstream databases, and apply engineering methods to solve practical problems. Meanwhile, students’ innovative consciousness, sense of social responsibility, engineering awareness, craftsmanship spirit, scientific literacy, practical ability and professional ethics are cultivated in the process. The teaching practice in the past two years has shown that the PBL method can effectively improve the effectiveness of ideological and political education in engineering courses. At the same time, it lays a solid theoretical and practical foundation for the learning of subsequent engineering courses, and provides strong ideological and technical support for students’ future career development.
