Una mirada hacia las naturalezas montevideanas

The article has as the main subject, the uses of the Río de la Plata, mainly seabathing, considering it as part of Montevideo citizens routine and also an expression of a new sensitivity towards nature, between 1829 and 1862. We aim to analize the various ways in wich seabathing is practice as well as represented by montevideans. In methodological terms, we did documentary research mainly press (journals and newspapers), images (aquarelas, paintings and litography), a hygene manual from the period and literary texts. As a conclusion we could say that seabathing in that river, during the period analyzed, pointed out new ways of relating to nature; they asserted adventure and contentment where danger and fear once dwelt.
