Design and Research of Emergency Activation Model for Highway Emergency Lane

With the rapid economic development and acceleration of urbanization, traffic flow on highways is constantly increasing, leading to increasingly severe congestion, especially at specific segments such as ramp entrances and bridge entries, where traffic bottlenecks are likely to occur. The limited number of lanes also affects the road's capacity. In this context, finding scientific methods to predict and manage traffic flow has become an urgent issue. Emergency lanes, as a special part of the highway, play a significant role in alleviating traffic congestion when utilized appropriately. This paper conducts a statistical analysis of traffic flow parameters collected on highways to identify their temporal variation patterns. By collecting and analyzing these data, we can better understand the dynamic changes in traffic flow. Subsequently, a traffic congestion model will be established, which can predict whether congestion will occur in specific segments over a future period based on fundamental traffic flow parameters and road conditions, and provide real-time alerts.
