Assessment of constraints in use of non-motorized transport in Lahore
• The disparity between motorized and non-motorized vehicles poses a barrier to urban mobility in Lahore. • • The persistent utilization of motor vehicles results in continuing congestion throughout the day. • The study finds physical deficiencies (e.g., absence of designated lanes), safety hazards, and socio-cultural perceptions as significant obstacles to the adoption of non-motorized vehicles. • The study utilizes reliability analysis to validate replies from stakeholders and experts. Regression analysis is used to identify important constraints for efficient non-motorized transport operations. • The research proposes policy measures for improvement in non-motorized transportation for equitable urban mobility in Lahore. Incorporating NMT into Lahore’s urban master plans and transit-oriented development frameworks. A balanced infrastructure for both motorized and non-motorized transportation is one of the challenges for urban mobility in Lahore. With minimal consideration for non-motorized transport, most of Lahore’s road infrastructure has been designed for motorized transportation. Urban road networks are under stress due to the unrelenting plying of motor vehicles, which causes congestion for most of the day. The research explores existing barriers and difficulties that impact the utilization of non-motorized transport for sustainable urban mobility. Reliability analysis was applied to validate the response of households and experts. Regression Analysis was used to identify paramount constraints for the smooth operation of non-motorized transport. The paper recommends policy measures for rationalization and smooth operation of non-motorized transport in Lahore.
