Finite element numerical simulation of temperature and stress field in drum brake

Addressing the issue of brake drum cracking during drum brake braking, we employ a thermodynamic coupling finite element analysistechnique to determine the temperature and stressfield patterns of drum brakesin urgent braking scenarios and analyze the causes of brake drum cracking in specific trucks through this model. Findings indicate that under these circumstances, the brake drum's inner surface will experience residual stress. These stress could cause specific damages in subsequent braking phases, leading to the development of thermal fatigue cracks, which persist in enlarging due to circumferential stress until they rupture. The employed model and analytical approach hold considerable value in engineering applications and theoretical importance for researching brake drum cracking failures.
