A FREQUENCY AND POLARIZATION RECONFIGURABLE TEXTILE ANTENNA FOR MOBILE COMMUNICATION APPLICATIONS

This paper presents an innovative approach to wearable reconfigurable technology by incorporating PIN diodes with a flexible antenna, providing crucial mechanical adaptability for wearable devices. The proposed wearable reconfigurable antenna, with dimensions measuring 71.66 × 77.55 × 3 mm3 using felt substrate with a rectangular patch, incorporates two PIN diodes, utilizing a hexagonal-shaped slot and truncated patch edges with inset feed for better performance. By controlling the state of the PIN diodes, the antenna switches between four operational modes, transitioning from linear polarization (LP) in the 2.4-6.8 GHz frequency range to circular polarization (CP) in the 6.7-6.8 GHz range. This low-profile design significantly improves data transmission and reception capabilities across multiple bands. The antenna structure has been successfully simulated using Ansys HFSS (high-frequency structure simulator) technology. The antenna's multi-reconfigurability, mechanical stability, and reliable performance across its operational frequency range and polarization make it a promising solution for wearable communication systems like industrial, scientific, and medical (ISM), Wi-Fi, and Wi-Max. It also performs effectively in challenging environments and offers enhanced versatility.
