Essential oil extracted from Callistemon viminalis via salting-out assisted hydrodistillation enhances in Vitro antioxidant and antifungal properties
Callistemon viminalis leaves exhibit outstanding functional activities and high concentration of essential oil. In order to completely develop its extraction method, the raw materials were pretreated using inorganic salts by salting-out hydrolysis, and the essential oil was subsequently extracted using hydrodistillation. Gas mass spectrometry was used to analyze the essential oil's chemical compounds. The ideal concentration of NaCl was 3 %, the liquid-solid ratio was 3.0 mL/g, and the separation period was 2.4 h. The 9.30 mL/kg DW was maximum essential oil production, 36.88 % higher than hydrodistillation process. Additionally, leaves, flowers, flower buds, and stems included 60 different types of essential oils made of compounds. The essential oil has fungal against activity of 87.12 %. The minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum fungicidal concentration of essential oil against Colletotrichum fructicola and Colletotrichum acutatum were 0.15 and 1 µL/mL, respectively. These results indicate that the essential oil of Callistemon viminalis has potential as natural agents. • The compounds of the essential oils (EO) from different parts of Callistemon viminalis were compared. • Pretreatment with salting out (PSO) helps to increase the yield of the essential oil. • The antioxidant capacity of EO obtained through PSO slightly exceeds that of traditional methods.
