Exploring Problematic Social Media Use among Adolescents: A Comprehensive Study
This study provides an in-depth examination of problematic social media use (PSMU) among adolescents, aiming to understand its prevalence, determinants, and consequences.Drawing on recent research, the paper identifies key psychological traits (e.g., impulsivity, low self-esteem, sensation-seeking, and narcissism) and social factors (peer influence and social comparison) that contribute to PSMU.The impacts of PSMU are analyzed, revealing significant associations with depression, anxiety, academic decline, and impaired concentration.Intervention strategies, including digital literacy programs and parental monitoring, are discussed as potential solutions. The study emphasizes the need for longitudinal research and culturally informed approaches to effectively address PSMU and promote healthier digital behaviours among youth.
