THE LONG-TERM EFFECTS OF COVID-19 ON THE MUSCULOSKELETAL FUNCTION OF THE LOWER LIMBS: AN ANALYTICAL LITERATURE REVIEW
The article analyzes the impact of COVID-19 on global health, focusing on effects on the musculoskeletal system of the lower limbs. It highlights the relationship between infection severity and complications such as muscle weakness, lower back pain, and functional impairment, especially in post-intensive care patients. Common symptoms include myalgias, arthralgias, and muscle disorders, often worsened by hypoxia. The literature review reveals consistent patterns of long-term sequelae but points to gaps, such as a lack of specific rehabilitation programs for the lower limbs. The article reinforces the need for an interdisciplinary approach and tailored rehabilitation strategies, considering muscle strength, balance, and respiratory function. It concludes by emphasizing the importance of understanding the interactions between COVID-19 and the musculoskeletal system to optimize patient care and outcomes.
