Modern Methods of Diagnosis and Treatment of Takayasu arteritis
Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a rare systemic vasculitis characterized by chronic inflammation of the aorta and its main branches. Despite major advances in the pathogenesis studies, diagnosis and treatment are still complicated interdisciplinary issues of modern medicine. The paper highlights a comprehensive analysis of advanced approaches to diagnosis, therapy and monitoring of TA based on systematization of scientific data. Early diagnosis by modern imaging methods such as fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography combined with computed tomography, MR angiography, and contrast-enhanced ultrasound, is a key factor of successful patient management. The treatment represents an individual approach using combined immunosuppressive therapy (including glucocorticosteroids and disease-modifying anti-inflammatory drugs). The therapeutic prospects are associated with personalized medicine, targeted drug development and improved diagnostic criteria.
