Numerical study of marine high temperature film cooling endwall with particle deposition on mesh morphing

Particle deposition can cause a decrease in cooling performance, thereby affecting the power output of the turbine. A high temperature turbine cascade is selected as the research object. The deposition phenomenon on the endwall is investigated. Using the User Defined Function (UDF), the particle state is determined. And mesh morphing according to deposition distribution is simulated. Based on deposition phenomena explored with and without film cooling, the deposition characteristics for two patterns of cooling holes location are analyzed. The influence of deposition on cooling effectiveness at different blowing ratios is also taken into account. The result shows that there are two high deposition zones are formed near trailing edge on hub and shroud. Cooling jet can prevent deposition within its coverage region, and the difference in deposition number with and without film can reach up to 3000. Deposit efficiency is decreased with the increase of blowing ratios. The cooling enhancement of pattern along the axial direction on hub is most visible and reaches 1.5%. From the perspective of avoiding deposition and reducing negative effects on film cooling effectiveness, pattern along the axial direction is chosen on hub, pattern along pressure gradient is better on shroud. High blowing can reduce deposition.
