Language Functions in Algeria During the French Colonial Era: A Sociolinguistic Study
The functions of language vary between general linguistics and sociolinguistics. French colonization in Algeria disrupted linguistic functions and strived to rearrange the Algerian linguistic landscape; it also imposed questionable roles on existing linguistic domains that reflected the colonial linguistic policy. This linguistic conflict holds major importance from the perspective of sociolinguistics, as it examines the interaction between linguistic structures and social frameworks.
