Numerical Simulation on Hydrodynamic Performance Analysis of the Shaftless Rim-Driven Thruster

The Rim-Driven Thruster (RDT), as a new type of high-performance propeller. Based on the NO.19A+Ka4-70 duct propeller, the simulation values obtained using the RANS method are compared with the experimental values. The obtained parameter data match well. Construct the inverse thickness distribution with the ducted propeller as the prototype, and take NACA66(mod)+a=0.8 as the propeller blade of its thickness and camber distribution. Numerical calculation of its hydrodynamic performance based on star ccm+. Comparing the open water efficiency of the RDT by changing various structural parameters of the propeller blades. The influences of the number of blades, the disk ratio and the pitch ratio on the efficiency of the RDT are analyzed respectively. The results can provide references and applicable merits of parametric design for RDT propeller foils.
