A Study of the Effects of Electroporation on Skin in an In-Vivo Mouse Model

In this study, we studied the effects of electroporation (EP) on skin in an in vivo mouse model accompanying with finite element modeling. Four groups (Control, Serum, EP, and EP & Serum) were designed on the back of mouse model and four evaluation indices, such as moisture content, transepidermal water loss (TEWL), melanin and brightness were measured and used to study the effects of designed groups in a total of 14 treatments. The results demonstrate that a significant increase in skin moisture content after EP can be found compared with other groups. However, there is no statistical significance noticed in other evaluation indices among groups. The finding also suggests that the EP damage to the skin is reversible and able to promote serum absorption and collagen synthesis. The simulation results of EP on skin model illustrate the reversible EP. Future studies are warranted to increase the sample size in an appropriate mouse skin model.
