Assessing User Experience in Academic Information Systems: Insights from Heuristic Evaluation and UEQ
The website of the Atma Jaya Yogyakarta University Academic Information System (SIKMA UAJY) helps students complete tasks such as class registration, JOGIS, counseling, and SPAMA independently. Based on interviews, UAJY students using SIKMA felt the need for a user experience evaluation. Identified issues include the lack of feedback when uploading SPAMA, a rigid user interface, an empty main dashboard, and several user-interface elements that need improvement. This study employs the heuristic evaluation method (HE) with three expert UI/UX evaluators and the User Experience Questionnaire (UEQ) to assess user experience and provide improvement recommendations for the SIKMA UAJY website. The UEQ evaluation results showed below average scores in attractiveness, perspicuity, efficiency, and dependability, and poor scores in stimulation and novelty. The HE method identified 56 issues, summarized into 35 key problems. After implementing the improvement recommendations, a reanalysis of the user experience showed higher scores, achieving good ratings in all aspects. These evaluations and improvements are designed to improve the user experience of the SIKMA UAJY website.
