Design of an ultra-fast charging station for EVs

This paper presents the design and simulation of a high-power fast-charging station for electric vehicles (EVs), addressing the critical need for efficient infrastructure to support rapid EV adoption. Two primary architectures—modular and single-converter structures—are analyzed, with an innovative solution proposed through advanced converter integration to optimize energy management and minimize losses. The developed charging station delivers 500 kW of power with 95% efficiency, enabling a full battery charge (0–100%) within 10–15 minutes. This performance aligns with growing demands for ultra-fast charging, as global EV adoption surpassed 15 million units in 2023, while only 30% of existing charging infrastructure currently supports high-speed capabilities. Simulation results demonstrate enhanced energy efficiency and scalability, positioning the proposed system as a viable advancement for sustainable transport electrification.
