Fuzzy Logic-Based Load Shedding Scheme Improvement for Industrial Plants in Islanding Mode

This study focuses on the development of an efficient load shedding technique for islanded industrial power systems to mitigate the economic and operational impacts of blackouts caused by overloading. Overloading often leads to frequency instability due to the imbalance between demand and generation, resulting in significant production stoppages and equipment damage. The technique of load shedding is used to solve this problem. In this paper, fuzzy logic control has been adapted to determine the optimum amount of load that needs to be shed based on the rate of change of frequency and the current frequency to return to the stable nominal frequency (50 Hz), thus replacing the inefficient conventional method of load shedding. MATLAB (Simulink) software was utilized to simulate the proposed method and test different load deficit scenarios.
