Successive Interference Cancellation in NOMA For 5G communication system

The combination of Successive Interference Cancellation (SIC) with Non-Orthogonal Multiple Access (NOMA) has proven to be a highly effective approach in 5G communication systems. With the increasing demands for high data rates, massive connectivity, and improved spectral efficiency, the integration of SIC and NOMA in 5G has garnered significant attention. SIC in NOMA enables the decoding and cancellation of interference iteratively, enabling multiple users to efficiently utilize the same time-frequency resources. The signal from the user with the strongest channel is decoded initially and subsequently removed from the received signal. Weaker users' signals can be progressively recovered. This approach enhances user fairness and capacity, as weaker users can still be served even in the presence of stronger users. Throughout this paper, we discuss the principles and attributes of SIC in NOMA systems, along with the consequences of imperfect SIC implementation. Besides, the study concentrates on employing SC (Superposition Coding) techniques at the transmitter and SIC methods at the receiver, we will use Binary Phase Shift Keying (BPSK) modulation with two users and we have implemented a fixed power allocation (PA) strategy. Moreover, we do SIC for decoding superposition coded signal. The obtained results concludes that NOMA is functioning as intended, effectively combining two separate sets of data in the power domain and successfully retrieving both of them. Additionally, we propose MIMO with SIC-NOMA as a substitute approach, to enhance the system capacity and spectral efficiency. This involves exploring optimal beamforming, precoding, and user grouping strategies to exploit the spatial domain for improved performance.
