Modern Irrigation Systems Adoption in Morocco: Problems and Development Directions
Morocco’s agricultural sector, important to its economy and food security, faces significant challenges due to water scarcity, climate variability, population growth and the inefficiencies of traditional irrigation systems. Despite the potential of modern irrigation technologies to optimize water use and improve crop yields, their adoption in Morocco remains limited due to financial constraints, infrastructure deficits and compatibility issues with traditional practices. This paper examines the current state of irrigation in Morocco and compares it to global practices, highlighting important challenges limited the adoption of modern systems. It provides practical recommendations for Morocco, including new policies, financial support and the development of collaboration among stakeholders for technological integration. The study concludes with a vision for fostering sustainable agricultural in Morocco, emphasizing the critical role of modern irrigation systems to ensure water efficiency and resource conservation in Morocco's arid climate.
