Recent advances in the chemistry of selenophenofurans and their analogues
• Reactivity of 1 H , 3 H -selenopheno[3,4-c]furans. • Reactivity of selenopheno[3,4-b]furans. • Reactivity of selenopheno[2,3-b] furans . • Reactivity of selenopheno[3,2-b] furans. • Synthetic application of selenophenofurans. The fusion of furan and selenophene in hybrid configurations results in four distinct structural types: condensed 1 H ,3 H -selenopheno[3,4- c ]furans, selenopheno[3,4- b ]furans, selenopheno[2,3- b ]furans, and selenopheno[3,2- b ]furans. Despite their potential, no dedicated studies have exclusively explored this scaffold, which has primarily been employed as a versatile building block across various applications. The synthesis of selenophenofurans and their analogs can be achieved through diverse chemical approaches, including (i) selenation reactions, (ii) Suzuki-Miyaura coupling, (iii) Stille and Sonogashira coupling, and (iv) cyclization reactions, among other methods. This review provides a comprehensive analysis of the synthesis strategies and chemical properties of selenophenofurans and their analogues.
