«Civilizational Renaissance» and Sociocultural Economics

The article examines the epistemological problems of the domestic version of socio-cultural economics as a subject of intellectual history, which is analyzed in the context of the civilizational renaissance developing since the 2010s. It is shown that socio-cultural economics is associated with the processes of deglobalization and the undermining of traditional ideas about modernization. These trends are most clearly manifested in sociology, where the civilizational turn determined the idea of Modernity as a new type of civilization, and the idea of the plurality of modernities, including alternative and intertwined ones. In socio-cultural economics, such features of the civilizational renaissance as the contingency of the narrative, attention to alternative versions of explanations, the desire to think "from the contrary", features of cultural, spatial, historical turns common to social and humanitarian knowledge have manifested themselves. Nevertheless, there is a detachment from the centuries-old tradition of civilizational analysis and a number of its disciplinary areas. The cross-cutting connection with S. Huntington's position leads to an increased influence of classical scientific knowledge, a metahistorical approach to civilizational analysis associated with scientism, determinism, and essentialism. This is manifested in ignoring a number of alternative versions of the interpretation of socio-cultural influences on the economy, and problems with the use of the concept of a cultural code. Overcoming these difficulties is seen in a more active integration of socio-cultural economics into the process of civilizational renaissance, an increasing role for humanitarian aspects of analysis, and a movement toward a transdisciplinary, multiperspectivist, constructivist approach that expands the cognitive maps of economists by reframing civilizational models.
