Advancement of Drilling Performance Through Strategic Project Management in Integrated Drilling Service

Abstract This paper presents strategic project management practices adopted in Integrated Drilling Services (IDS), with focus on the integration of technical expertise with business objectives through effective collaboration. The paper aims to provide actionable insights into the management of multidisciplinary teams and collaboration with multiple stakeholders to achieve efficiency in drilling projects. Multiple Wells have been delivered by IDS through this successful integration of technical goals with organizational goals. Project management framework and methodology adopted in IDS projects goes beyond the traditional project management approach by focusing on collaborative strategies that integrate technical processes into managerial processes and vice versa. Risk-based decision making, shared ownership with responsibility, resource optimization and stakeholder engagement are the key optimization processes. Best practices for enhancing collaboration with multiple stakeholders during different phases of the project are properly captured for their replication. These processes and methodologies can serve as a benchmark for regional and international companies considering similar operational models. Since 2019, IDS has successfully delivered multiple Wells showing the success of its strategic project management approach. Significant reduction has been accomplished in the Wells delivery duration year-over-year while achieving the organizational strategic goals. Reduction in Wells delivery duration is complimented with the reduction of non-productive time (NPT) & invisible loss time (ILT). These results were achieved by focusing on collaboration with internal as well as external stakeholders in addition to technical benchmarking. Through this approach realistic and achievable targets were set which were then achieved through shared ownership & responsibility. These results show the importance of strategic oversight in realizing sustainable and cost-efficient drilling operations. These insights are from the company that has a privilege to be the first Middle Eastern national oil & gas company to offer Integrated Drilling Services. This paper presents actionable insights into the approaches adopted to achieve success in integrated drilling operations and hence can serve as a roadmap for other regional players.
