Revolutionizing Well Integrity: Cutting-Edge Technological Innovations for Optimal Cement Integrity and Zonal Isolation—An In-Depth Case Study in Ultra-Sour Fields Enhancing Circumferential Hydraulic Isolation

Abstract This paper aims to significantly enhance cement integrity and zonal isolation (ZI) in ultra-sour fields through the application of advanced technological innovations. The primary objective is to improve circumferential hydraulic isolation, thereby ensuring the long-term integrity and safety of wells. The methodology involves the deployment of a self-orientating Flow Diverter Tool (FDT) strategically positioned in the annular space between the casing and the wellbore. These elements effectively redirect downhole fluid flow, enhancing the primary cement bond quality. The process encompasses comprehensive field trials and the utilization of cement evaluation logs to rigorously assess the technology's effectiveness. The results indicate a substantial improvement in bond strength and the overall Well Integrity (WI) compared to conventional cementing methods. This innovative technology has been pivotal in eliminating sustained casing annulus pressure, reducing the need for remedial cementing operations, and enhancing well productivity through improved zonal isolation. Furthermore, it significantly enhances well safety by mitigating cement leaks. Field trials conducted have demonstrated remarkable improvements in bond quality and ZI, leading to safer and more cost-effective drilling and production operations. This paper introduces a novel approach by applying self-orientating Flow Diverter Tool (FDT) to improve cement integrity and ZI in ultra-sour fields. The innovative approach offers significant benefits, including the reduction of WI failures and the enhancement of operational efficiency and safety. The findings contribute to the existing body of literature by providing new insights into advanced WI management techniques, which can significantly benefit the petroleum industry.
