A Narrative Study of Participants in a Church Group Counseling Program for Marital Recovery

The purpose of this study is to examine the impact of a group counseling program within the church aimed at restoring marital relationships, specifically focusing on middle-aged couples. To achieve this research purpose, the study reviewed prior studies on Emotionally Focused Couple Therapy, Gottman’s Healthy Marriage House Model, and the necessity and usefulness of group counseling. The study was conducted using the group counseling program for marital relationship restoration at B Church as the research subject. Field observations were made, and three couples who participated in the program were selected as research participants for in-depth interviews. Based on the findings, this study offers suggestions on the direction of marital relationship restoration programs in churches, which have been increasingly popular, and hopes to contribute to future discussions on the role that the church should play as Christian counselors in helping parishioners restore their marital relationships.
