Spread in the private sector of knemidokoptosis in chickens and measures to control it
Knemidokoptoz is a fairly common invasion of birds in the private sector of the Kaluga region. The prevalence of knemidokoptoz infestation in chickens in the village of Chernysheno is 62 %, in the village of Pokrovsk – 51 %. High infestation rates in poultry in private farmsteads are recorded at the age of 1 year. In the private sector of the village of Chernysheno, the proportion of birds with a pronounced clinical picture was higher by 5% in compare with the village of Pokrovsk. Hyperemia, itching, and an inflammatory reaction were observed on the affected areas of the skin of the chickens’ limbs. When the horny scales peeled off, growths of a dirty gray color were formed, which grew and looked like a limescale. In birds with a less pronounced clinical picture, they were expressed as slightly raised scales. Complex treatment based on a combination of general and local action of various antiparasitic agents helps to destroy the causative agent of scabies and maximum restoration of the skin of the legs. The most effective scheme included the use of ivermectin three times, Vishnevsky liniment and fish oil 1:1 and chiktonic. A week after using this scheme, all the chickens on the legs began to lose keratinized areas, and healthy tissue formed under them.
