Herpetofauna im Eingriffsbereich Beispiel Alpensalamander und eine kritische Betrachtung von „Vergrämungsmaßnahmen“
Herpetofauna in the intervention area – example of Alpine salamanders and a critical review of “deterrent measures” // As preparation for pipe construction works in an alpine surrounding, Alpine salamanders (<em>Salamandra atra</em>) were systematically collected after fencing off the site to prevent harm to individuals. Contrary to initial habitat assessments, the number of individuals found significantly exceeded values reported in the literature. Similar findings have been made for other herpetofauna species following comprehensive collection efforts. A review of current sientific Work revealed that structural deterrence, a commonly used mitigation method, is scientifically and legally questionable. Based on these findings, we advocate for a broader application of systematic trapping, relocation and resettlement.
