A DEPENDÊNCIA DE OPIOIDES EM PACIENTES COM DOR CRÔNICA NÃO ONCOLÓGICA

This paper analyzes the misuse of opioids in the context of persistent pain unrelated to cancer, with an emphasis on the risks of physical and psychological dependence. Prolonged and sometimes inappropriate administration of these drugs can cause significant damage to health, such as tolerance and dependence. When used improperly, these drugs have the potential to develop addiction, overdose and misuse. The aim of this study is to understand the connection between the improper administration of opioid drugs and the onset of addiction in these individuals, as well as to highlight the role of nursing in prevention, monitoring and therapeutic care. Persistent and intense pain, when not related to cancer, compromises the patient’s well-being and functionality, requiring frequent use of powerful analgesics, which in turn can trigger severe adverse effects. This study is based on the bibliographic review methodology, based on scientific productions published between 2020 and 2025, obtained from the Google Scholar, Scielo, PubMed, Medline and BVS platforms.
