A Collaborative Project between Academia and IT Company for the Application of Software Engineering Concepts

Fantasy Sport Games have gained popularity among sports enthusiasts, offering not only increased engagement with the sports they follow but also a diverse range of platforms. These applications enable users to form fantasy teams by selecting real-life athletes whose performances in actual competitions earn points for the team. This paper details the development of the Fantasy Sport League, a web-based Fantasy Sport Games created within an academic setting that leverages web scraping techniques to gather real-time data necessary for its functionality. The project represented a collaboration between academic institutions and the industry, providing students the opportunity to apply software development principles from design to product testing. This initiative enriched the students' learning experience and resulted in both a backoffice web application and a mobile app built with OutSystems. The application focuses on soccer, specifically the Portuguese Primeira Liga, allowing users to select athletes, manage leagues, and access a variety of additional features. This paper outlines the people, process and product involved in the project and shares the findings from user acceptance tests conducted to evaluate the satisfaction of potential Fantasy Sport League users with the final application.
