Representations and symbolic meanings of plant motifs in traditional textiles
Plant motifs in traditional textiles - rugs, towels, tablecloths and other textiles for everyday or ceremonial use - are a fundamental element of the cultural heritage and their study is essential for understanding the artistic and symbolic identity of the communities that have created and passed them down over generations. First of all, vegetal motifs reflect the deep connection between man and nature. They are not mere ornaments but symbols of fertility, vitality, abundance, and regeneration. They encode cultural messages and are associated with life cycles, ancient customs and beliefs. Investigating plant motifs in traditional fabrics from the Republic of Moldova is not just an academic exercise, but a way to keep alive the collective memory and to understand more deeply the symbolism of folk art. Research contributes to strengthening the cultural identity and transmitting traditional values to future generations.
