Management of C shaped canal configuration in Mandibular second molars: A case series

The anatomic variation in the root canal poses a challenge to diagnose and successfully treatment outcome. “C” configuration, which is an important anatomic variation, presents a thin communication connecting the root canals. This variation often goes undiagnosed leading to missed canal, perforation in roots, transportation of orifices and incomplete obturation which ultimately lead to failure in endodontic treatment. Thorough knowledge of C Shape anatomy and its variation, along with meticulous cleaning and shaping followed by three dimensional obturation is key for successful treatment outcome. This article present management of three C shape Root canal teeth treated successfully with cold lateral obturation techniques along with post treatment cone beam computed tomography of teeth. These anatomical configurations of the C shape canal system can be managed with modification in the cleaning and shaping methods with cold lateral condensation techniques. Knowledge of these variation and their diagnosis key for successful management.
