Influence Of Menopause-Related Issues In The Working Environment Of College Teachers In Kerala

Menopause is a significant yet under-recognized transition in a woman’s life that often impacts work life, especially in female-dominated professions like teaching. This study explores how menopause-related issues influence the working environment of college teachers in Kerala. Through structured questionnaires and sample analysis, this research identifies the common physical and psychological symptoms—fatigue, hot flashes, mood swings, and cognitive issues—that affect teaching efficiency and job satisfaction. Despite their high prevalence, menopause is rarely addressed in institutional policies or wellness programs. This study emphasizes the need for awareness, flexible work arrangements, and menopause-sensitive HR policies in Kerala’s higher education sector. Findings from a  sample of 200 respondents suggest that menopausal symptoms significantly disrupt work life, and there is a lack of structured support from institutions. The paper concludes with recommendations for inclusive workplace practices that can improve the well-being and retention of menopausal women educators.
