Flame Burn Injury in a 9-Year-Old Male Due to Severe Peripheral Neuropathy Following Incorrect Casting: A Case Report
A 9-year-old boy suffered a flame burn injury to his hand due to severe peripheral neuropathy resulting from incorrect casting for a distal radial fracture. The initial treatment by an unqualified practitioner led to complications, including loss of sensation, discoloration, and clawing of the hand. Despite the timely removal of the cast, the patient experienced persistent peripheral neuropathy, leading to a burn injury. This case highlights the importance of proper casting techniques, vigilant monitoring, and timely intervention to prevent such complications, particularly in pediatric orthopedic care in resource-poor settings.
