KAD TIŠINA PROGOVORI (O SLIKOVNICI „EMINA TIŠINA“ DORE GIMEŠI I MARI TAKAČ)
As climate change related catastrophes increasingly devastate our planet, more and more authors of children’s literature are emphasizing the importance of educating young readers about these pressing issues, so they can learn to care for their environment from an early age. As a result, there has been a veritable boom in the publication of picture books with ecological themes — often referred to as the “Greta Thunberg effect”. Around the world, and in Serbia as well, exceptional picture books are emerging with powerful messages about recycling, plastic waste, global warming, and endangered wildlife. The author of this paper primarily focuses on Emma’s Silence, a picture book by Hungarian writer Dóra Gimesi. She explores the place of this work within the realm of so-called “green” picturebooks and analyzes its illustrations, created by Mari Takács. In doing so, she also examines the relationship between the text and the illustrations, investigating how the visual narrative deepens and enriches the story as a whole.
