Utilizing Papaya (Carica Papaya) Leaves as an Alternative Water-Soluble Tablet

This study aimed to investigate the use of Carica papaya leaves as an alternative water-soluble tablet. A developmental research design using a quantitative approach was used in this study. The ingredients used in the formulation were 75% leaf powder, 12.5% citric acid, and 12.5% sodium hydroxide. The ingredients underwent the following procedures: preparation of the Carica papaya leaves, production of alternative water-soluble tablets, and the basic nutritional facts analysis. The product was then analyzed in the laboratory through the following methods: Vacuum Oven Drying to determine the moisture content of the product; the Kjeldahl method to quantify the Protein content of the product using N x 6.25; Ankom method to identify the amount of Fiber content; Mojonnier extraction method to determine the fat content; Ignition – Gravimetric method to determine the Ash and mineral content of the product; By computation/difference from the first computation were used to determine the number of carbohydrates present in the product; and lastly, Lane-Eynon method was used to determine the amount of total sugar present in the product. Based on the results, the nutritional facts analysis of Carica papaya leaves as an alternative water-soluble tablet revealed low moisture content (1.07%), protein (8.09%), fiber (6.47%), fat (1.83%), ash (12.3%), carbohydrates (4.01%), and total sugar (0.976%). In conclusion, Papaya (Carica papaya) leaves demonstrate potential as an alternative water-soluble tablet due to their favorable nutritional content. Furthermore, future researchers are recommended to conduct additional studies to expand on this research, focusing on the therapeutic applications, long-term safety, and efficacy of papaya leaf-based products.
