Two-stage stochastic scheduling of diverse flexible resources for enhancing resilience of high wind-penetrated power systems
Typhoon events pose significant challenges to high wind-penetrated power systems. Despite the abundant wind energy they provide, they also compromise the security of power systems. To address this, effective day-ahead scheduling is essential for harnessing various resources and mitigating the adverse effects of typhoons. This paper integrates terrain considerations into the generation of typhoon wind fields and develops a multi-scenario model that captures uncertainties in both generation and load. A two-stage stochastic optimization model is proposed that coordinates a range of flexible resources – wind power generation, demand-side response, and energy storage – to minimize the expected total cost of day-ahead scheduling and real-time adjustments. Furthermore, a new metric, the Expected Cost of Real-Time Adjustments, is introduced to measure system resilience and validate its consistency in evaluating resilience levels. A case study based on actual elevation data from southeastern China demonstrates the efficacy of our approach in optimizing day-ahead scheduling, thereby bolstering system resilience in preparation for disasters. • Two-stage stochastic model optimizes day-ahead plan for pre-disaster resilience. • Flexible resources (wind, energy storage, demand response) enhance system resilience. • Includes terrain effects for accurate typhoon wind field generation. • Novel resilience metric evaluates the Expected Cost of Real-Time Adjustments. • Case studies validate cost reduction and risk mitigation in high wind-penetration systems.
