Synthesis and characterization of dicalcium phosphate dihydrate from marine mollusks (Conasprella bermudensis and Oliva Sayana)

The study utilized marine mollusks, Conasprella bermudensis, and Oliva sayana , to manufacture nano dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD), a bio-ceramic material having an increased Ca/P ratio, which was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The produced DCPD nanoparticles exhibited a well-defined crystalline structure within the permissible nanometer range (1-150 nm), with crystallite sizes varying across different models. The estimated microstrain ranged from -6×10 -4 to 3×10 -4 , while the calculated stress values varied between -1×10 7 and 6 × 10 6 Nm -2 , and the energy density values were between 9.50×10 2 and 3.53×10 3 Jm -3 . The (020) and (021) planes for both synthesized DCPD exhibited significant intensity, indicating that synthesis media influenced the crystallographic planes. FTIR spectra confirmed the presence of key functional groups, including P-O, , OH - , and H 2 O. These findings provide valuable insights into the structural and mechanical characteristics of nano-DCPD sourced from marine mollusks. • synthesized nanostructured Dicalcium Phosphate Dihydrate from marine mollusks • Comprehensive characterization was performed using XRD and FTIR technique • Formation of (0 2 0) and (0 2 1) planes in the synthesized sample • Achieved controlled synthesis conditions to optimize the material's properties

Abstract

The study utilized marine mollusks, Conasprella bermudensis, and Oliva sayana , to manufacture nano dicalcium phosphate dihydrate (DCPD), a bio-ceramic material having an increased Ca/P ratio, which was characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR).
