The Unfamiliarity of Adult Cardiologists to Acquired Pediatrics Heart Disorders of Multi-system Nature, Highlighting a Gap of Practice
Abstract Adult congenital heart disease is a continuity specialty which is concerned with the management of congenital heart disorders or their sequelae persisting into adulthood. There are several acquired heart disorders that are more commonly seen in the pediatric age group but still occur in adulthood, and for which most of the adult cardiologists remain unfamiliar. Examples of such disorders are Kawasaki disease, multi-inflammatory disease in adults, and rheumatic fever. We highlight this gap of practice, which can be bridged by changing the scope of training and practice of adult congenital heart disorders specialty to adult presenting pediatrics heart disorders.
