Study of strength properties and radiation resistance of carbon-carbon composite material for medicine
The study of strength and radiation resistance of carbon-carbon composite material used in the manufacture of medical devices for traumatology and orthopedics is discussed. Composite cylindrical rods can be successfully used in percutaneous osteosynthesis devices for treatment of fractures and limb reconstruction. The studied material has the property of radio-transparency, which allows one to comfortably carrying out any radiographic studies necessary for the control of the treatment process. Various mechanical tests of samples pre-exposed to gamma irradiation in a wide range of doses in an open atmosphere were carried out.
