Effectiveness of Kahoot! Application on Student Achievement in Mathematics Education

This study examines the impact of the Kahoot! application on Grade 8 students' mathematical achievement, specifically in understanding theorems on triangle inequalities, while also exploring students' perspectives on its advantages and challenges as a digital learning tool. A mixed-method research approach was employed, integrating quantitative analysis through pre-tests and post-tests and qualitative insights from student interviews. A total of 29 Grade 8 students from the University of Eastern Philippines, Laoang Laboratory High School, Northern Samar, were selected through universal sampling during the academic year 2024–2025. Pre-test results assessed baseline knowledge, followed by post-test evaluations after Kahoot!-based instruction. Statistical significance was determined using a paired t-test, while thematic analysis provided deeper insights into students' experiences. Findings revealed a significant improvement in mathematical proficiency, with post-test scores showing notable gains compared to pre-test results. A paired t-test confirmed statistical significance, affirming Kahoot!’s effectiveness in enhancing student achievement. The qualitative analysis highlighted its advantages, such as increased accessibility, flexible learning, heightened engagement, and motivation driven by gamification elements. However, students also identified challenges, including technical issues, potential distractions, misuse of the platform, and time constraints. The study substantiates Kahoot!’s effectiveness as a digital learning tool for mathematics education, particularly in triangle inequalities, while emphasizing the need to address technical and pedagogical challenges for optimal implementation. Future research should explore its long-term impact and the integration of complementary digital learning tools to maximize student achievement.
