This qualitative research study explores the lived experiences of Grade 11 students in learning English as a Second Language (ESL) at Valencia National High School. Employing a phenomenological approach, this study delves into the challenges, coping strategies, motivations, and perceptions of students regarding ESL acquisition. Data were gathered through semi-structured interviews with ten purposively selected participants. Thematic analysis revealed four major themes: (1) Struggles with Language Proficiency, (2) The Role of Teachers and Learning Environment, (3) Personal Motivation and Aspirations, and (4) Social Support and Peer Influence. Findings provide insight into students' emotional and cognitive journeys as ESL learners, emphasizing the importance of contextual, interpersonal, and intrapersonal factors in language acquisition. The study offers valuable implications for ESL pedagogy and policy reforms to create more inclusive and effective learning environments.
