Influence of Syn-Rift Structure on Linked Kinematic Systems, Offshore Essaouira Basin, Morocco
Summary The basin has experienced two significant phases of shortening: the first during gravity gliding deformation in the Jurassic and a second orogenic event (Atlas) beginning in the late Cretaceous. The presence of Jurassic gravity-gliding-related shortening in the updip region is odd. Why is it there? We suggest that the Cap Ghir graben disrupted the salt detachment, leading to two independent linked kinematic systems.
