A Re-Evaluation of Petroleum Systems of the Tarfaya Basin, Offshore Morocco
Summary The offshore Tarfaya Basin is situated between southwest of Morocco and the Canary Islands. The basin has been explored for hydrocarbons since the late 1950’s, but to-date only non-commercial discoveries have been made. Therefore, a better understanding is needed to derisk future exploration. We present a synthesis of the reservoir, source and charge system, together with an evaluation of the risks associated with migration and entrapment of hydrocarbons within the identified plays. We combine results from onshore field campaigns, integrated with offshore well and seismic data interpretations.
