Exploring Deeper in Uruguay: Could Namibia’s Successful Cretaceous Play be Chased in Uruguay’s Deepwater?
Summary Recent discoveries in Namibia’s Orange Basin have raised interest in the potential for similar petroleum systems in the conjugate basins on the south American margin, and specifically in the Punta del Este and southern Pelotas Basins of Uruguay. We demonstrate new insights derived from an integrated review of the conjugate basins and data from a recent 3D reimaging program in the deepwater Punta del Este Basin. The data strongly suggest that the key elements of a potential Cretaceous petroleum system are present.
