Geological Characterization and Assisted Seismic Interpretation of the Southern Santos Basin
Summary This study uses assisted seismic interpretation tools to perform geological characterization of a 3D seismic cube from the southernmost Santos Basin. This part of the basin represents a different scenario from the giant pre-salt traditional context of the basin. It mimics the northern Pelotas Basin, making this study a tool for better understanding that frontier basin. The methodology involved the application of the PaleoScan™ software, using Model-Grid construction to build a Relative Geological Time (RGT) model, extract horizons, apply Sequence Stratigraphy tools, and perform seismic-well tie. The RGT model enabled the creation of dense, continuous surfaces, even in structurally complex regions, reducing interpretation time and enhancing accuracy. The study also incorporated complementary tools such as Sequence Stratigraphy and Horizon Stacking to refine the interpretation. The results revealed dominant structural features, including NE-SW and N-S lineaments, and highlighted important seismic attributes for further analysis.
