Field Evidence for Extreme Wave Events in Coastal Boulder Deposition at Sidi Moussa Sale Morocco
Summary The boulders at Sidi Moussa Sale were found atop a cliff, ranging from 2 to 15 meters in elevation and located 4 to 69 meters from the cliff edge. Their size, alignment, and distribution suggest deposition by extreme marine events, likely including both tsunamis and large storm waves. The largest boulder (B22) would have required a wave height of approximately 33 meters, exceeding the capacity of typical local storm waves. These findings provide significant evidence for the involvement of extreme wave events in the formation of coastal boulder deposits in high-energy environments
