Enhancing Deepwater Reservoir Identification in the Lagzira Offshore License using Novel Spatiotemporal Visualization Technique
Summary This study analyzes newly merged 3D PSDM seismic data in the Lagzira Offshore license, located in the Tarfaya-Ifni Basin, offshore Morocco. By leveraging Relative Geological Time (RGT) analysis and a cutting-edge depth-based RGB blending approach, interpreters can efficiently visualize and map deepwater clastic systems within the post-rift Cretaceous. Unlike conventional RMS amplitude methods—which rely on fixed sampling windows—this color blending technique offers real-time flexibility to capture depositional features in thicker sediment packages. The resulting images honor geological morphology, enabling detailed mapping of channel elements at varying depths and revealing new stacked targets. Furthermore, the method addresses disadvantages of spectral decomposition, including the need for expert-driven frequency parameterization and extensive computation time. This approach de-risks potential reservoir presence by highlighting amplitude anomalies within thick Cretaceous intervals. The newly identified leads, supported by amplitude-based stratigraphic indicators, overlie the Jurassic SM-1 discovery, where oil was previously recovered. Overall, this workflow improves reservoir delineation in complex slope environments and provides a fast, accurate, and consistent means to integrate seismic geomorphology into prospect evaluation.
