Palynology and Depositional Palaeoenvironment of the Agadir-Tarfaya Area (Morocco) During the Albian

Summary A detailed palynological study of the Albian marly succession from the EGA.1, FA.1, and FD.1 wells in the Agadir-Tarfaya area, southwestern Morocco (northwest African Atlantic Margin), provides precise age determinations based on dinoflagellate cyst biostratigraphy. The identified assemblages contain key stratigraphic marker taxa and record significant chronostratigraphic events. Dinoflagellate cysts, the dominant palynomorphs, enable the recognition of early, mid, and late Albian intervals. Quantitative palynological analyses across the three wells reveal an inner neritic environment with littoral influence in the onshore area during the early to mid-Albian, while offshore settings exhibit outer neritic to oceanic conditions. In the late Albian, the EGA.1 well records a transition from a brief littoral phase to middle-to-outer neritic marine conditions, whereas the offshore FA.1 and FD.1 wells indicate a shift toward outer neritic to oceanic environments.
