Building Common Data Models: A Systematic Approach for Enterprise Data Integration

This paper presents a systematic approach to building common data models (CDMs) for enterprise data integration. As organizations grapple with increasingly disparate data sources, the need for standardized data representations becomes critical for ensuring data consistency and interoperability. It proposes a methodology that combines domain-driven design principles with practical implementation strategies to develop robust CDMs. The research includes a comprehensive analysis of existing CDM frameworks, identification of key challenges in their implementation, and a proposed four-phase approach for CDM development. The theoretical framework suggests that effective CDM implementation requires not only technical expertise but also organizational alignment and governance structures that support cross-domain collaboration. This research contributes to the field by addressing the gap between abstract data modeling theory and practical implementation considerations.
